Artist Statement

My work in essence is about balance, and in particular its influence on my own life. Without balance I feel fraught, lack self control, disorientated and under pressure. Unsure of my end goals and unable to gain genuine satisfaction from anything I do. With balance I feel in control, calm and grounded. I am able to enjoy each experience, however small, and I feel connected to the world which I inhabit. Domino ceramic

The process of making craft is an important factor for me in achieving harmony. It allows me to slow down and connect inwardly, a challenge in my increasingly busy lifestyle. And I have come to realise it forms a type of kinetic meditation. And hence often rhythmical repetition features heavily in my work.

I have always had an affinity with clay, an aptitude for its techniques and an enthusiasm for its pliability. My desire for scientific enquiry into its reactive processes strengthens this passion.

I have worked with various clay bodies and slips, but more recently I have begun to use Kerafoil, a new plastic porcelain imported from Europe. This is an incredibly exciting and versatile product that has the pre fired qualities of paper, but the post fired qualities of porcelain I admire; delicacy, purity and translucency.

My work often combines other materials as surface decoration such as metal, glass and ceramic glaze, although I am reluctant to deviate from my enthusiasm for monochromatic tones and conscious that other materials/ processes are added to enhance the form rather than complicate it.

My unique forms and compositions are intended to be mindful and conceptual. They are always well executed down to the minute detail, carefully considered and beautiful to look at. I am proud of my work and take pleasure in showing to an enthusiastic audience.
